The Pilgrims arrived in the New World just in time for Winter. They did not
expect as harsh a Winter, so they were not fully
prepared for their new life. But they prayed very hard and kept a very positive
attitude. In the end, they were grateful that only slightly more than half of them perished in that first Winter.

The owners of the New World, then known as Indians, now known as Native Americans, helped the Pilgrims. They showed the Pilgrims what to plant and when to plant it. The next year was a bountiful harvest. So, the Pilgrims
decided to give a party and invite their new friends.

The Indians brought some food, and the Pilgrims brought some food, and well, you could say it was the first pot luck dinner in the New World. The purpose of the party was to give thanks for the bountiful harvest. The Pilgrims knew the worst was behind them. Thanks to the things the Indians taught them, they were going to be just fine.
